Sick of Staring at Fish Tanks, Learn to Snorkel

Sick of Staring at Fish Tanks, Learn to Snorkel

If you're sick of just staring endlessly into your fish tank then it's time to get outside. Snorkeling is a beautiful way to be one with nature and it's an experience that no one should miss out on. If you're ready to start snorkeling then follow my tips for a wonderful first experience.

1. First make sure that you've got a proper fitting mask and snorkel. It should fit snug, but it should also be comfortable on your face. When placing the mask on your face, position the small rubber strap that is affixed to the snorkel to your mask. The snorkel should go around your left ear if you are right-handed. If you are left-handed you'll want to purchase a special left-handed snorkel and the snorkel will pass your left ear.

2. Next get into the water and take a deep breath. Then close your mouth over the mouthpiece of the snorkel before completely descending underneath the water.

3. Once you're completely submerged exhale deeply so that all of the water is propelled from your snorkel shaft. Inhale lightly just incase there is any residual water left inside of the shaft.

4. Swim around gently and work on avoiding getting splashes of water into the shaft of your snorkel.

5. As you get more comfortable, take the opportunity to dive deep underneath the water to explore. As you do this, inhale and hold your breath. When you come back to the surface of the water, purge the water from the shaft once again by exhaling sharply.

These are just the basics, but as you get more comfortable there are even other techniques that will help you to become an expert at snorkeling.
